Integrin α6β4 is a key laminin receptor predominantly found in stratified squamous epithelia, especially localized to hemidesmosomes in the basal epidermal layer, where it plays a crucial role in cell-basement membrane adhesion, regulation of keratinocyte motility and polarity, and contributes to the structure of hemidesmosomal plaques, distinguishing it from other integrins.
